Reading
A quieter reading list
A reading list can become a record of good intentions rather than a place to choose the next thing to read. When every recommendation is saved, the queue stops helping.
Keep a short active list and move the rest into a separate, unranked collection. Before adding a title, write one sentence about why it interests you. That sentence is more useful later than a star rating copied from someone else.
Leave a little evidence
After reading, note the idea worth keeping and the question it leaves open. A quotation is useful when its context is preserved. Page numbers, links and a few words of explanation make an annotation understandable months later.
Stopping is part of choosing. A book that is not useful now need not be finished out of obligation. The aim is attention, not a larger completed counter.
